# Looking for a Vyapar Alternative? Here’s What to Check Before You Switch
Vyapar has done something genuinely difficult. It took GST billing — a task that used to need an accountant sitting next to you — and made it something a shop owner can finish on a phone in ninety seconds. For a single-counter retailer or a small trader, it works, and the people who recommend it are not wrong.
But we get a particular kind of call at TallyNine. It is almost never from a new business. It is from someone two or three years in, whose books have outgrown the app they started with, and who has just discovered that the exit is narrower than the entrance.
This post is about that moment. If you are searching for a Vyapar alternative, these are the four things worth checking — in any software you look at, including ours.
## 1. Can you actually pass a journal entry?
This is the first wall most growing businesses hit.
Billing apps are built around one motion: sale in, payment out. That covers ninety percent of a retailer’s day. It does not cover the other ten percent — and the other ten percent is what your CA needs in March.
Ask yourself whether you have ever needed to:
– Pass a **journal entry** to correct a misposted transaction
– Book **depreciation** on a delivery vehicle or shop fittings
– Record **bank interest, bank charges, or a director’s loan**
– Handle a **stock journal** — material consumed in production, damaged goods written off, stock transferred between godowns
– Issue a proper **debit note or credit note** that flows correctly into your GSTR-1
User reviews of Vyapar on Capterra and G2 through 2025 and 2026 repeatedly note that journal entries cannot be adjusted and that fixed-asset accounting and depreciation are not handled natively. Reviewers who describe themselves as accountants tend to phrase it the same way: fine for billing, thin for accounting.
If your only workaround is “my CA fixes it in Tally at year-end,” you are paying twice — once for the software and once for the reconciliation.
**What to check before switching:** open a trial and try to pass one journal entry and one stock journal. If you cannot, the software is a billing app, not an accounting system. That is not a flaw. It is just a ceiling, and you should know where it sits before you commit.
## 2. Is your plan locked to a device?
Look closely at how the plans are named. In Vyapar’s case, tiers are sold separately for mobile and for desktop — a mobile plan, or a mobile-plus-laptop plan at a higher price. Users on review sites have also flagged sync problems between mobile and desktop, along with occasional data mismatches that needed support follow-up.
For a one-person shop this is invisible. It stops being invisible the day you want to bill from the counter, check stock from the godown on your phone, and let your accountant open the books from his own office.
**What to check:** ask directly — “if I buy this plan, on how many devices can I log in, and does the phone show the same data as the desktop instantly?” Get the answer before you pay, not after.
## 3. What happens to your data when you stop paying?
This is the question almost nobody asks at purchase, and almost everybody asks eventually.
Two patterns show up in public reviews across billing apps in this category, and they are worth knowing about regardless of which vendor you choose:
– **Multi-year prepay.** Sales teams push three-year and five-year plans hard during the trial. Reviewers describe steady calls during the trial, and a very different level of responsiveness after payment clears.
– **Short refund windows.** One of a competing app in May 2026 described discovering there was no refund available after fifteen days — while their support ticket itself had been open for longer than that.
The compounding problem is that a multi-year prepay and a short refund window together mean the decision you make in one trial week is the decision you live with for three years.
**What to check:** two questions, in writing.
1. If I cancel, what is the refund policy — and what is the exact window?
2. If my subscription lapses, can I still log in and download my complete data — parties, items, and all vouchers?
If the answer to the second question is “renew first, then download,” treat that as a red flag. Your sales register is your record under GST law. You are required to preserve it for years. It should never sit behind a payment you have decided not to make.
## 4. Who picks up the phone in month fourteen?
Support quality at signup tells you nothing. Every vendor is responsive to a prospect. The signal you want is how they treat a customer in year two.
The most useful reading on any review site is not the average . It is the one-star reviews sorted by most recent, filtered to users who have been on the product for more than a year. On Capterra, incentivized reviews carry a label — the vendor invited the and offered something nominal. The critical reviews are usually not incentivized. Read those.
## Where Bizmitra fits
**Disclosure first:** TallyNine and Bizmitra are both owned by Drushtant Infoweb Pvt. Ltd., and I founded both. I started tallynine.com in April 2008 to help the Tally community learn Tally and accounting, added the TDL course in 2016, and built Bizmitra in 2022 to extend TallyPrime beyond the desktop — to mobile, to AI, and to the things Tally was never meant to do. So yes, I have an interest in what you choose here. Run the four checks above against Bizmitra as hard as you run them against anyone else
Bizmitra’s **Solo plan** was built specifically around the friction points above:
**Monthly billing, cancel anytime.** No three-year commitment, no prepay to unlock a discount you have to stay to earn. If we stop being useful in month four, you leave in month four.
**Your data stays yours after expiry.** If your subscription lapses, you can still log in and download your complete data — parties, items, ledgers, and every voucher — at any time. We do not hold books hostage against a renewal. This is a policy, not a feature we might reprice later.
**No device-based locking.** One plan, one login, any device. Bill from the desktop at the counter, check stock from your phone in the godown, give your accountant access from his office. Same data, same moment.
**Real accounting underneath the billing.** Journal entries, stock journals, debit notes and credit notes are all supported as first-class transactions, not workarounds. Because we came out of eighteen years of TDL and TallyPrime work, we built the accounting layer first and the billing screen on top of it — which is the opposite order from most billing apps, and it shows in exactly the places where they run thin.
**And Tally still works.** If your CA works in TallyPrime, that does not have to change. That integration is the part we have spent the longest getting right.
### Where Bizmitra is not the right answer
– If you run a single counter, bill twenty invoices a day, and have never needed a journal entry, Vyapar is cheaper and simpler. Use it.
– We are a younger product with a smaller user base than Vyapar’s. If a large community and a long list of YouTube tutorials matters to you, that is a genuine advantage on their side.
– If you need offline billing in a shop with unreliable internet as your primary mode, evaluate that carefully in trial before committing.
