Update : As on Today there are many alternate ways available to Access Tally data remotely including data entries and much more

First Best Alterative Which I can suggest is my own Softwarr Bizmitra GST Billing Software

Reason, I am recommanding Bizmitra GST Billing Software is because This is the most cost effective and hasslefree Software as on date.

It gives you full control on what to Sync, What not to sync.  How much access to be given to remote users

and most importantant this is the most competitive solutions available as on Date. You can use this software on Mobile, on Desktop or any system using an imbuilt browser.
There is no device limit and charges are very competitive.

So, it a try and you won’t disappoint.

Note
: To Access your data remotely your tally.net license must be active and if it has been expired, then you can contact us to renew the same. You can also buy any tally related product from us.
One of the biggest advantage of net is accessing any data or information remotely and to stay connected with friends, family and people remotely. You can view and share ideas, information, photos etc with any person you wish so using internet.
Accounting software can’t remain away from providing such facility to its user and so, Tally.erp 9 already started to provide this much needed facility to its user and through tally.net services now tally user can access their data remotely in tally.
Accessing your data remotely is very useful for writing books of accounts, verification of the same by your C.A. or even by people on move. What it says carry on your tally data with you wherever you go.
Presently this facility is only for view and print purpose however by end of current year, I hope that tally user will be able to edit, enter, modify or delete data remotely.
I will write here about how to access data remotely.meanwhile if you haven’t install tally yet, then I will recommend to install tally’s latest release 1.6
Create a tally.net user
First of all, you need to create a tally.net user for the person to whom you want to grant authorisation to access your data remotely.
For this purpose, follow the below screen shots
Start your company for which you wanted to create a remote user. Remember you have to create a remote user for every company you working on. This facility is for accessing your data remotely and not for accessing your tally software remotely!
Before you proceed to further, be sure to enable security password if you haven’t created a password while creating a company in tally. if you don’t set a password, you can’t create a remote user for your company and you will not be able to access your data remotely.
so,from the main menu of tally, Press ALT+F3 and select Alter and hit the Enter button

Now select your company which you want to alter and press enter
check the following item

Set  Use security Control to “Yes”
and you will find the following screen now

Type the name of administrator for e.g. here I select  “Raju”
now set password of your own choice. be sure if you forget the password, then you will not be able to view your data and you will need to hire a professional to unlock your company. It will definitely make a hole in your pocket. So be careful and memorise or write down it.Tally solutions or customer care center will not help you to reset your password!
Repeat your password and you will see a warning message as I mentioned above.

User tally audit feature to yes or no (It is not going to affect you in any way and you can change this setting at any time)
Disallow opening in educational mode ? set it to yes or no as per your choice. again you may change it any time.
Now press Ctrl+A to accept the changes you made.
Now return to Gateway of tally (Main menu) and press F11 and then select Tally.net features

you will find below screen

Under Registration Details : Fill up the details as it is asking.
Under Connect for Remote Access : Allow to connect company  ? set it to yes
and Connect on load ? to yes if you want to access your data remotely frequently. If you set it to no then you can connect manually through right side bar or by pressing F4 from the main menu of tally.( you must be connected to net otherwise you will not be able to connect!)
Now again from the Gateway of tally, press Alt+F3
Select Security Control as shown below

Select Users and Password

you will find below screen. Just fill up the required details

Select Tally.net user and press enter
type email address of the person to whom you want to grant remote access as name of user
the password field will be skipped as the person will receive tally.net password direct from the tally’s auto generate email system. you will not be able to set or change password of a third person to whom you have granted the remote access. however you can delete his ID at any time from this option.
Set allow remote access to yes
rest field you may select as per your choice now select the screen.

Now the Last step is :
Go to control center from the tally software

Login as remote Tally.net user by filling up your email address and password which you have used while activating your tally.erp 9 license.
this is your administrator email address and password. if you have forget your password then you can reset it by pressing F5

hit the button

Following screen will appear. Press Enter

Select user management .
Select Standard user type the email address of he person to whom you want to grant remote access . Now set Tally.net user to yes and set it active.

Its all done. your tally.net user has been created and a system generated password will be delivered automatically to his /her email address.
Last thing after creating the tally.net user
make sure following matters :
Suppose you have installed licensed version of tally software at your office and you want to access your data remotely at home then your office pc must be in running mode.
Tally software must be in running mode at office pc.
Your office pc must be connected with internet
Company must be loaded and connected to tally, net as explained above.if it not connected, then press F4 from the main menu of tally.
Now you want to access it from your Computer system ?
then your home computer must be connected to internet.
your don’t need a licensed tally software at your home to access data remotely.Download educational version of the software and start tally. now login as remote user by filling up your email address . Type your password and depending upon your net connectivity speed, you will be able to login as remote user and you can access your office pc tally data.
Do,let me know experience as remote user and if you find any problem, Then don’t hesitate to drop me a mail or your question here.

Renew your TNS and now you can even work on a remote computer with the launch of release 2.0

  1. Wouldn’t it be much easier to just use third party remote access software This seems like an awful lot of work for an issue that can be solved with a quick download and almost zero tweaking..

    1. You can access an accounting software by that way! Also, in the case as you have suggested, the host computer operator can not continue his/her work till the remote user finish his/her work

      1. Mr. Mahendra, I can see what you are doing. A commendable noble Job. for me I am totally a anew person with Accounts but I am very keen to understand Accounting as well as Tally. Would you be able to help me in any way ?

        1. Dear Deepak,
You can learn tally very easily. Just star working in tally and if you find any problem say how to create a ledger or how to post an entry, you may raise your question. you may follow me at Gmail buzz or at facebook or twitter and can raise your question at any time.

      2. Aniket Bhattacharya says:

Sir, we have one tally server and all user connect the server remotly for access Tally.. Users able to connect server from cyber cafe also. I want to take prinout at my local system.. how can it possible?

  2. manish deora says:

    Too good explaination…
    Keep it up..

  3. Hi Mahendra, could please explain me does the home pc need to connect via vpn to connect to the tally at office, or can we install tally.net and assess them from public ip address.

    1. Dear Siraj,
I believe tallynet is a bit different thing. Its an(software) inbuilt facility which connect two different pc through net. that is you connect your office pc with your home pc through the tally software iself so you do not need any VPN.
Please contact me for more details or in case you face trouble in connecting two pc

  4. Hi,

Very useful article. We have installed tally erp 9 in our office and it all works fine in the local network.

But when we try to access from remote location it gives a connection error: 407 system error code 11001

There is internet collection in the remote place and user is granted remote access, office tally server is on and tally is on, company is loaded and it has internet connection.

If however I am in office, then i can log in locally as well as remotely.

    any help is appreciated.

My feeling is that it is not able to connect – it is as if there is no internet connection at the remote place, except that there is connection and I am using the internet for everything else perfectly.

    Thanks

    1. Dear Peter,

Please do one thing. Create a new company demo company in your office tally system. Then Grant me a remote Access permission only for that demo company in favor of my mail ID. mkr2005 at gmail.com.
I will try to log in to your tally.erp 9 as a remote user from here and will let you know.
Alternatively make a test from your office. login from one pc/system within your office where tally is not connected to tally server pc.
Then check if you can connect or not.
Perhaps some firewall or antivirus software preventing you from remotes places to connect as remote user. in that case for instance disable these things.

  5. Hello Mahendra,

thank you for the advise, it seems you are correct, because I gave the username and password to a local tally helper and he could log in remotely!

But I disabled my firewall and it still cannot connect. I am still trying but any help is appreciated.

    Reason for failure
system name given in the configuration does not exist in your network

    1. Hi Peter,
As mentioned by you the reason “system name given in the configuration does not exist in your network” I assume that the system network of the remote system from which you are trying to reconnect is preventing tally.net (tally software) to connect.

Only your system Network administrator ( the remote system from which you are trying to access your tally) can resolve this problem. Please contact him and tell him to allow tally.net server connectivity.
You have nothing to do in this regard with your office system /sever where the tally.erp 9 is installed.

      1. Hello Mahendra,

        Thanks for the tips.

The thing is, I am using remote access from my home and I know quite a bit about networking, so I am sure it is not from my side, since I disabled my firewall and antivirus.

Besides, if it is indeed my laptop problem then how come the same laptop can connect to Tally server when I am in office? When in office I can connect both locally and remotely. If it was a firewall issue then it wouldnt have connected in office as well!

If you have any other suggestions then it will be very helpful.

I also want to ask how my computer with tally client can remote connect to the tally server in office? I didnt specify any special static ip address, so how does my remote laptop connect with the tally server? The only settings I see in my remote laptop is the server name and port number, does it connect to Tally main server in Bangalore and then get data from the office tally server?

        1. Hummm Peter,
I have to agree with your points. However it seems to be a technical problem. Have you contacted tally solutions regarding your problem ?
Alternatively, you can raise a query in favour of us and we will forward the same to Tally solutions with a quick solutions.

          1. Update: I get the connection error screen as soon as I start Tally.
But I can then click on the Control Center and log in as Remote user and change my details! How is the system verifying me correctly if it cannot connect to the Tally Server?
Additionally I can also click the Support Center and log in.
Any ideas or clues how I can investigate?

If I log in to Support Center and raise an issue, it just sends email to my local Tally guy, who can log in remotely from his computer.

  6. Dear Peter,
Control center, support center and remote access are different thing. you can log in to control center/support center without any problem. but in remote access you need to connect a remote computer through Tally.Net (a secured server of tally solutions) that is Tally.net connect two server. while in control /support center,a single computer connect to tally.net server

  7. Hello Mahendra,

I have solved the problem finally with some help, I was using multi user tally, I changed it to single user and was get in remotely.

    Hope this helps someone.

    Thanks for all the effort.

    1. Dear Peter,
I am happy to see that your problem has been solved and thanks for updating your fellow readers on the issue. Yes definately one’s experience is very useful for other users.
Please do not hesitate to contact us in case of any other problem

    Please do the needful

    regards,

    1. Prakash,
Please raise the same query on Support forum with some more details Do you meant to access your accounts through remotely ?
remote access is used for specific company and not a software based facility. that is it does not enable for all companies loaded in your tally.
it work only for a company for which you have set up remote access

      1. Dear Mahendra,

I am using Tally for so many years and last week i had formatted my system and i am not able to get the license no from the network, when i open tally i am not able to get the license number – please help me out.. Thanks

The only condition is that your TNS must be in active. For further details, you may contact me on Gtalk at mkr 2005

Sir I request you guide me tally software. sir my problem is how to brake my account password..
    so please help me sir…

    Regards
    Parag Sethi
    Rajasthan, Ajmer.

    1. Parag,
You will not be able to break your tally password at any cost, Because it requires an utility which is not available for free.
You have to contact some tally Service provider who offers this facility but again it is a chargeable service. I do not provide this service. Only can refer to some one else.

        thank you

        1. Hello Laxmikant,
You need to give the permission to the remote user through the security options. you need to set up a user as a tally.net user and give appropriate user access right to that user

hi we have a typical problem. We have tally erp9. We have to locations.. connected over ipsec vpn ..broadband line 2mbps-download/ 400kbs-upload speed:

    1) Location A – Have license
    2) Location B – We want to save data (Dualcore machine with 1gb ram)

When we give the path of location B to save the data….it take around 1-2 minutes to save one record.

    How to increase the speed.

    Cheers Ruchika

  21. hi Mr mahendra,i have got serious problems with tally remote user.we have tally erp9 multi user with .Net licence at the head office and we have got three more branches but the company cannot afford to buy single users for the three branches so we try to connect using the remote user.the problem here is anytime we connect with the remote user to the server,it becomes very slow and sometimes it takes more than two minutes to make an entry.i will be very glad if you are able to help us with problem.thanks

  22. Hi Mahendra,

First of all thanks a lot for your valuable information. I am not a tally guy or account person but I am IT technical person.

As recently my company purchase tally erp gold and installed Core i3 server and also installed client on same office.

My Network scenario is like below.
    HO Office = 10.0.193.0/24
    Plant Network = 10.0.225.0/24

Above both network are connected via High End ISDN line and both network connected without any restriction like works as a single network.

Now Tally ERP server is installed on 10.0.193.0/24 network without Internet allow.

So now question is = Tally.Net remote require Internet at both end?

    2. If internet is require then Static IP is required or not? (* Because Tally Guy told me that you require Static IP for this)

If I put static ip then data security, server security is an issue.

Kindly provide your expert view on this.

    Thanks in advance.
